Osmogro® Gel Membrane Osmosis

Osmogro® self-watering products are the result of more than 20 years biomaterials and polymer technology research. By placing the specially designed, flat-based Osmogro® plant pot on top of the Osmogro® gel and fabric discs a seal is created between the plant pot and the external water reservoir. This means that water can only enter the Osmogro® plant pot by diffusion or osmosis through the Osmogro® gel disc, which acts as a water-permeable hydrogel membrane barrier. The result is that your plant effectively waters itself in harmony with its own natural osmotic processes. Your plants will be happier, healthier and will live longer. Houseplants with different watering needs can be kept on the same reservoir, e.g. windowsill trays, as the Osmogro® gel disc allows the plants to take only the water they need. You will have no houseplant watering worries and all that you have to do is keep the water reservoir topped up. Osmogro® automatic plant watering is simple and effective.

Osmogro® flowerhead logo 2. Why do I need to use the special Osmogro® plant pot?

Osmogro® Self-Watering Pots

The Osmogro® plant pot has a completely flat and smooth base with normal plant pot drainage holes only in the bottom. It's been specially designed to work with the other components in the Osmogro® houseplant watering system. The smooth, flat Osmogro® plant pot base forms a seal with the water-swollen Osmogro® gel disc. Unless your plant is supplied in an Osmogro® compatible plant pot, your houseplant will need to be re-potted into one of these. It may be possible to make some plastic plant pots compatible with the Osmogro® self-watering system by removing any raised "feet" and smoothing the base of the pot using sandpaper or similar. The Osmogro® plant pot can also be used like any normal plant pot.

Osmogro® flowerhead logo 3. How do I re-pot my houseplant into the special Osmogro® plant pot?

Before re-potting your indoor plant into the Osmogro® plant pot, make sure that your houseplants are well watered and that the soil or compost is moist to the touch. This can be done easily by sitting your houseplants in saucers of water (or in the sink) for around 15 minutes.

Step 1: Take your houseplant out of its old plant pot Step 2: Re-pot your houseplant in the special Osmogro® flat-based plant pot Step 3: Place your houseplant on top of the Osmogro® gel and fabric discs inside your water reservoir Step 4: Fill your reservoir with water and let Osmogro® self-watering care for your houseplant

Carefully remove your houseplant from its normal plant pot and re-pot into the Osmogro® plant pot. Push your plant firmly into the Osmogro® self-watering pot, making sure that the soil, compost or growing medium is in close contact with the drainage holes. If necessary, add additional houseplant compost or growing medium to completely fill the Osmogro® pot. Remove any soil, compost or growing media from the base of the pot to ensure that your Osmogro® plant pot forms a good seal with the Osmogro® gel disc. Place your re-potted houseplant on top of the Osmogro® gel disc inside your reservoir and fill the reservoir with water.

The Osmogro® houseplant watering system will work with most common and popular houseplant nutrient products. The Osmogro® gel membrane is permeable to salts and water-soluble nutrients and fertilisers. The Osmogro® hydrogel membrane is not permeable to soil pigments which should help to keep your reservoir water clean and clear. The Osmogro® gel disc will provide added protection for your indoor plants as it will act as a barrier to potentially harmful bacteria and fungi.
