When used in combination with the specially designed flat-based plant pot and a water reservoir (you can use a non-porous, flat-bottomed container like a pot saucer, a tray or a ceramic bowl), the unique Osmogro® gel membrane lets your plant use osmosis to draw through only the water it needs, even over extended periods like holidays. With Osmogro® plant care, over or under watering houseplants becomes a thing of the past. Osmogro® automatic plant watering technology puts your plants in control of their own watering regime, helping you to keep and grow healthier, more attractive and longer-living houseplants.
Osmogro® houseplant watering technology is unique in that it delivers water from an external reservoir into a plant container or pot at a controlled rate using a specially designed, semi-permeable hydrogel membrane. The plant watering mechanism is exclusively by membrane diffusion or osmosis and capillary wicking and hydraulic flow are prevented. The water entering the plant container or pot dissolves nutrients and salts in the soil or growing media, forming a solution. This solution causes an osmotic potential difference (or concentration gradient) to develop across the hydrogel membrane. As the plant draws water from the growing medium through its root system, more water is drawn from the reservoir, through the membrane and into the plant container.
